He has pioneered new approaches in medical simulation training for healthcare professionals, setting up the Simulation and Interactive Learning Centre (SaIL) at London’s largest hospital trust.  Peter has been involved in simulation since 2001, holding a number of national roles and developing a recognised programmes including Hands Up for Health, using simulation to attract under-privileged school children into a healthcare career.

He is an ex-member of the Executive Board of the Association for the Practice of Simulation in Healthcare, a founder member of the clinical Human Factors group and works nationally to further the integration of Human Factors in Healthcare. From 2009 to 2011, he set up and chaired the Simulation committee of the College of Emergency Medicine.

Peter is dedicated to improving the quality of Healthcare experience for patients careers and the staff through the use of Human Factors.

His research interests include Human Factors, faculty development and debrief. He developed the Diamond, the most widely used debrief model in the UK. In addition, he has a particular interest in helping individuals and teams enhance their performance under stress. In addition, he has been driving teams and individuals to focus on Care and Compassion in the NHS. Recently, he has combined his interest in this and Human Factors to develop the Circle of Care, a model for compassionate Human Factors in Healthcare.

These principles drive IncusER’s approach to course design for teamwork and leadership skills training that improves delivery of care and strives towards delivering excellence in service.
